This workshop will help connect modern band concepts with the traditional general music classroom. How do we link modern band what we’re already teaching our students from K-5 and then connect it to their middle school learning? From Kindergarten through 5th grade there are standards and lessons that can be directly applied to the modern band practice. Participants will leave with ideas and examples for primary K-2, intermediate 3-5, and connections to middle school. We’ll share ideas and ways that our lessons and standards can lead into a spiralized modern band experience for our students. From the very foundation of beat to the layering of different parts, and solo singing, traditional state and national standards can be used to develop modern band techniques and practice when organized thoughtfully and intentionally.
