SONGWRITERS WANTED! This workshop will explore the concept of songwriting and incorporating Common Core State Standards through the use of film and LKR resources. We will begin with a short (5min.) silent film that tackles relevant student issues of identity. The facilitators will walk you through the process of analyzing the film and determining the theme in order to complete the verses and chorus and eventually create a masterpiece that be performed for years to come. A song from the LKR library will be used to provide the chord progression that will accompany the lyrics. A songwriting template will be provided as a guide in the songwriting process, which can later be omitted if the students feel comfortable to write their own song. You will get into groups where ideas will be discussed and as a culminating task, you will perform in front of your peers the song you have created. This exercise is aimed at intermediate to advanced learners, but methods of incorporating beginners as well as students with special needs will be discussed. This activity is intended for the Middle to High School level. This exercise not only tackles the Common Core State Standards, but also integrates collaboration, cooperation, stage presence, and creative writing
